PhotoQt v1.4 beta testing
Published: 16th of April, 2016
It has been quite a while since the last release of PhotoQt, almost a year this time. But the next release is just around the corner: PhotoQt v1.4 is undergoing some final debugging and bug fixing over the next two weeks (plus/minus), and then it will be rolled out to the world!
Over this past year I got to dive into the world of High Performance Computing (HPC) as part of my studies on iterative methods. It has been an amazing adventure so far already, and I learned a lot about coding and improving performance! At the end of March, I was able to present my research at a conference in Colorado, USA. This was an amazing opportunity, but it also was the cause for me to again take a step back from developing PhotoQt for some time. Thus there were some rather long periods of hardly any development going on.
Nonetheless, there have been numerous changes, too many to tell them all. I will give a more detailed overview once v1.4 will be released, but here is already a quick list of some of the major changes:
- custom 'Open File' element
- re-designed interface
- re-designed settings
- streamlined workflow
- re-structured use of hot-corners/context menu to simplify the interface
- support for RAW images (using dcraw)
- better key navigation support for all elements
- blurring of background when element is opened on top
- faster start-up by using smarter checks during start
- added selective IPTC metadata tags to the already existing Exif metadata tags
- options to tweak behaviour of interpolation
- adjustable size of pixmap cache
- experimental (and very basic) touchscreen support
- re-written many parts, including the engine displaying the main image
- and so much more...
I'm sure I missed a number of changes/new features in this list. But as I mentioned, I will give a more thorough and detailed overview with the final release.
Check it out by getting the code from GitLab and please let me know if you encounter any bugs! There are also again a large number of translations to be done, so if you're able to help with that, head over to the Transifex page.
A big Thank You to everyone who currently already supports PhotoQt! PhotoQt would not be where it is today without all of your help!
Enjoy PhotoQt,
